Wow, the comment about “you must not really want them”? Seriously? How ignorant ARE some people?
Or “do you want to throw me a baby shower” – talk about insensitive!!
You are right, the proper response is just “I’m sorry”. It’s just like when a child dies, there are so many things NOT to say to a bereaved parents that people insist on saying anyway, when all they need to say is “I’m sorry”.
