I am, even though I am math phobic, a big counter. I like to keep score of myself and I can get a little obsessed with numbers, sometimes to my detriment. I have at times had unhealthy obsession with 4.0 GPA’s and numbers on scales. In my less pathological counting I do things like count how many steps it takes me to get down the stairs and how many comments a given post gets and how many lipsticks I have( all symbols of mild and undiagnosed OCD).
Today is my 500th post and in a way that feels like a huge accomplishment and at the same time it feels like ‘that’s all?’. I know bloggers who post two to four times a day and so they probably get to 500 in their first year. It, however, has taken me nearly three years to get to the half-thousand mark.To celebrate I had thought about putting together links of all my favorite posts out of the 500. I also considered doing a list of 500, or maybe just 50, things I have learned as a blogger or maybe the 50 big changes in my life since I started blogging. I decided I do enough self-reflection and that maybe today was just a day for a cupcake and a glass of champagne.
As I count this 500 post I can’t help put wonder about the next 500 posts and where I’ll be and who I’ll meet and what I will learn—and if I will ever manage to finish the “365 things that don’t suck about L.A.” series. And truth be told I can’t imagine coming up with 500 more posts but blogging is very much a one day at a time kind of endeavor.
I hope I can count on you to leave a comment on this post. It would make me a very happy blogger(please lurkers, please leave a comment today. I promise not to bug you to comment again until my blog turns three in October). 500 is quite a milestone…and is most certainly cause for congratulations! I too suffer from this counting syndrome on occasion so am very happy to follow and help you to your 400 mark!
Too cute, the Count… Congratulations LBR! This is a splendid accomplishment not because you blog rather because your blogs are sort of like newspaper editorials. I know you put a lot of work into them and it shows, so congratulations again. I will be back again to check this blog and peek around but today I must run. By the way I disconnected both phone and dsl at home so I am limping in cyberspace now.
Another BTW- I too count, I wonder if this behavior is caused by some vitamin deficiency. ; )

Math is a necessary evil and best left to those who are not us.
Quality, not quantity. You put actual thought into your posts, peppering them with various allusions and anecdotes. A crappier blogger (me, for example) steals shots from The Google.
I was caught off guard by this post's title because I too referenced that song in a comment today at my place. Someone call Mulder and Scully.

Many congratulations that is a lot of dedication… I think I also have a counting OCD if I use the rowing machine or anything repetitive … I subconsciously count and not always continuos numbers just up until a number and then restart .. I have no idea why I just have found myself doing this..odd person I know xx
I will add to the congrats! I started off as a 2-3 posts a day kind of blogger, but it's just not sustainable. Congrats to you for getting to 500 and here's to another 500 more beautifully written posts.
Also, re: the nose surgeries, I would love to see it as idiosyncratic charm. I haven't reached that stage of acceptance though. Did you have them to try to correct a deviated septum? I now reckon my problem is simply hayfever back; I know I'm allergic to about four types of grass and trees and pollen. It's driving me completely mad.
