Bravo Corinne….I hear what you say but strangely for me on the flip side……. The French mannerisms that you so perfectly describe give me a real sense of comfort but perhaps it is that we just love feeling familiar with the unfamiliar rather that unfamiliar with what should be by birth so familiar. I love the way you develop this idea, weaving in and out of comfort and discomfort.

Last weekend, I had a Blog Camp at my house in England. (I'm a Texan married to a Brit living in the English countryside.) Out of the six of us, there was only one person who lived in the country of her birth! We talked quite a bit about this phenomena: at home in two places; but at home in neither. Funnily enough, the two Americans — who both thought that their American-ness had worn down quite a bit — are, apparently, deluding themselves. At least you can recognize the bits of you which are French!
